Things That Make Me Happy, Lately

I don’t know if I am in an appropriate emotional state to blog right now, but I’m going to give it a go. You see… I’ve just watched the final episode of Game of Thrones season 6.

If you watch it, you will understand I am having emotions right now. And possibly weeping openly while wrapped in a blanket on my couch. These things happen. I immediately consulted entertainment blogs afterward to console myself and pretend that a certain character is fine and to read any news on the next season.

In the meantime, I am going to share some things that are making me happy, lately.

Veggie Burgers:

We went to Drop Squad Kitchen, an all vegan restaurant near us, for Fourth of July and the burger there was great. I won’t say no to a good veggie burger. They had a nice chargrilled taste, like they were fresh off a grill. Also came with kale salad, potato salad, and sweet potato chips.

Lush Henna:

I tried Lush henna for my hair, and I didn’t come out looking like the Little Mermaid! Although, secretly, I would like to. I have been looking for a vegan-friendly hair dye, and decided to try Lush’s. I used the Caca Rouge, which is supposed to be red, but over my brown hair, it gave it a reddish tint, and showed up brighter on highlighted bits.

They are not kidding when they say this stuff is messy, though. We had to sweep and mop afterward, and next time I will be enlisting Greg’s help, because it is hard to put on by yourself. He ended up helping me halfway through.

I just watched the instructional video on their website, and I would like to try again to try to get mine to look the same as hers when she mixed it. I think I made mine a little thick.

Shopping Find:

Speaking of vegan stuff, I found this faux leather jacket during Urban Outfitters’ extra 30% sale. I feel kinda like I should use it to hunt vampires or something. I couldn’t find the exact, but there is a similar one here.

TV Show:
Obviously, Game of Thrones. I’m going to need to recover from that last episode. I’ll be in my bunk.

Is it weird that I want to see more of Iwan Rheon, because he is fascinating to watch act, but I want someone to push his character off a cliff?

New Hair Color

I hope you had a great weekend. I had to work all weekend at drill, boooooo. But, Thursday, I treated myself to a haircut and color since I only go a couple times a year (with good reason, holy dye cost, Batman..)

I showed my stylist a bunch of super ombred out pictures, but she knows better and gave me a much more subtle chestnut with lots of variation…so far, I like it, although it took a while to grow on me.

I’m still holding onto my dreams of Rachel McAdams blonde (I’ve pinned it three times without realizing it) and Ariel red.

Friday, I shopped around in Nordstrom with a mission in mind to try on the Hue jeggings. I found them and I’m still thinking about them, but didn’t buy anything, and took an OOTD picture in their dressing room, anyway.

I wouldn’t buy these boots, now, being vegan and all, but I bought them at least 4 years ago, and they are still going strong *knock on wood.* I always get comments on them and their distressed look. The distress is very, very real. They have been through snow, etc, but some Dr. Martens shoe balsam does wonders.

And, what is going on in your dressing rooms, Nordstrom?

Seriously, what is happening? There’s a bulge…

My phone should get here in a couple days!! I’m so excited! I’ve had my Iphone for two years, now, and I still love it, except that the battery has been depleting like lightning, lately. Not cool if I get stranded with no phone.

Friday Favorites: Snooki & a Vampire

Happy Friday! I can’t complain about this week. The weather has been pretty nice, and I have the windows open right now. This summer seems much shorter than the last, maybe because the heat didn’t seem as crazy *knock on wood*. We still have some summer left, so I’m trying to enjoy that. I can’t decide if I am missing fall yet.

Favorite Treat:
When I realized I was quickly circling to almost a full year since my last haircut and color, I decided it was time. It was probably more like 8 months since the last one, but when you are slowly turning into Chewbacca, it feels like much longer.

She lightened up my color with some highlights and gave me a quick trim. Some days you just gotta wrap your head in aluminum foil and stick it inside a helmet blow dryer. I want to go to the blonde side! Next time, possibly blonder.

Favorite TV Show:
I started watching True Blood from the beginning again, since I can’t remember where I left off, and I AM IN IT. I’m not saying it’s a great show. But I am in it now. Most of the time I don’t know what the hell just happened.

And then, with every werewolf-witch-fairy plot twist, I feel the same way.

But in the end, I don’t care because I love it, in all of its cheesiness and sexy bits and things that crack me up.

Favorite Video:
You guys might have seen this already, but watch it if not! Chris Pratt is awesome. And if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet, you should go see it. Greg and I are still laughing about it a couple weeks later. It’s probably my favorite movie this year, but I loooove almost all Marvel movies (Captain America wasn’t my favorite, but love the rest).

Hair Quesadilla

Happy New Year, everyone! I have some big news, but for now I’ll just share my new hair. Isn’t it lovely? I felt like a quesadilla. Here’s the end result:

I’m really happy with it. My hair stylist is awesome! Next time I’m going to go even blonder. It looks a little less blonde in real life, cause I had some sun glare in the picture.
Greg is at the gym now. He invited me, but my legs are still recovering from yesterday’s sprints, so instead I am cuddled up on the couch.
We celebrated New Year’s Day by packing away Christmas stuff yesterday, cleaning, cooking, and watching Pain and Gain. That movie was not what I expected; it was soo funny!! I had no idea it was based on a true story.
Today, it is back to work for two days, and then we can relax again. We are trying to sell a bunch of old electronics on Craigslist. I can’t wait to get rid of them so we can have the extra space, but I am worried about shady people coming to our apartment (selling a desktop PC so can’t transport it). Have you ever sold old computers? Craigslist? Trade-in? How was it?

Catmas / Santa Claus Visits

Is this thing on? Hope everyone had a happy Christmas and got everything they were wishing for.

This is probably not exactly what my cat was hoping for, but he’s learned to live with it. This time comes but once a year.

I got a hair cut a couple days ago, just to get rid of my split ends. I loved the hair dresser; we talked about our pets and her dog throwing a soggy squirrel corpse at her face, which turned out to be a stuffed animal. Basically, pets are there to terrorize and love you at the same time.

She even curled it for me without me even asking! Now if I only knew how to do that myself as easily as she did. I set up an appointment for color next week, so I am crossing my fingers. I’m not sure exactly what I want yet, besides ombre.

I almost always wear my hair in a braid at work, so coming in with it down was a surprise to some coworkers the other day. I came in with it in a bun on top of my head today, and one of my coworkers exclaims, “What happened to your hair???? It was so nice the other day.” Thanks, sorry it looks like a pile of llama poop today.

I got a HUGE surprise at Christmas. Greg’s family and mine went in with him on my/our gift, which is something I’ve wanted for a long time. When I unwrapped my gift, I found a Macbook Pro. I’m still in shock and so amazed. I am glad we can both use it, especially since he is in school.

Does anyone else have a Mac? I’ve used one before but mine was a much older version. Any tips I should know about? I’m a little worried about using up the space, but I could use my external hard drive if I need to.

Fishtail Braid

I am lazy when it comes to hair. You will not catch me with a flat iron during the week. Do my hair for WORK? Nope.

It’s growing to an out-of-control, leave-hairs-on-every-single-surface-in-the-house length, and I wear it in some type of french braid or pony tail while I’m at work. Otherwise, I would probably look like Chewbacca by the end of the day

So, I’ve decided to try different up/braided styles I’ve seen on Pinterest, and my first try was the fishtail braid I’d seen on A Beautiful Mess. After a few tries, I managed to learn the braid steps. One thing they don’t mention is what an arm workout it is!! Wrangling hair is hard work.

I like the braid style; on my next try, I want to contain some of my flyaways. Magic hair potion, maybe??
