A Who and Star Wars Weekend

I have to confess that I didn’t put up a tree this year. Or decorations. Or anything. I’m only home for two weeks this year, so it didn’t seem worth it. We will have to double up everything next year for a double Christmas, when I hope things are more settled down. This time is a little crazy.

My cat got this box for Christmas. As you can tell, she loves it a lot. She sat in it for about 5 minutes, then was over it.

Movies:

We went to see Star Wars, and it was awesome. I’m not a huge Star Wars nerd (Harry Potter all the way), but I enjoyed it.

There was a guy at my work who came in complaining about it, but he can just get over himself. I hate when people nitpick movies to sound like they are cool.

Also, BB8 was one of the cutest things about this movie.

Purchased:

I get excited about things like getting a cute new welcome mat.

Watching:

We finally caught up on the most recent three episodes of Doctor Who! I thought this season was really good, although I definitely want to rewatch it and some of the other recent seasons, because I like seeing them all together.

The Christmas episode was especially good this year, I thought. How cute were the Doctor and River?

I mean, there were so many great moments. Not a spoiler, but when they went in the TARDIS, it was hilarious. They are adorable, and I thought it was nice to finally have just them together.

I also want to steal every piece of her wardrobe this episode. All the sparkling dresses!

Food:

Hello, I am a cookie addict. I make cookies every week, and this week is oatmeal chocolate chip. These are from a mason jar mix Greg got me for Christmas, but here’s a similar recipe which is basically the same ingredients.

How was your Christmas weekend? Did you see any good movies/TV?

Things That Make Me Happy, Lately

I don’t know if I am in an appropriate emotional state to blog right now, but I’m going to give it a go. You see… I’ve just watched the final episode of Game of Thrones season 6.

If you watch it, you will understand I am having emotions right now. And possibly weeping openly while wrapped in a blanket on my couch. These things happen. I immediately consulted entertainment blogs afterward to console myself and pretend that a certain character is fine and to read any news on the next season.

In the meantime, I am going to share some things that are making me happy, lately.

Veggie Burgers:

We went to Drop Squad Kitchen, an all vegan restaurant near us, for Fourth of July and the burger there was great. I won’t say no to a good veggie burger. They had a nice chargrilled taste, like they were fresh off a grill. Also came with kale salad, potato salad, and sweet potato chips.

Lush Henna:

I tried Lush henna for my hair, and I didn’t come out looking like the Little Mermaid! Although, secretly, I would like to. I have been looking for a vegan-friendly hair dye, and decided to try Lush’s. I used the Caca Rouge, which is supposed to be red, but over my brown hair, it gave it a reddish tint, and showed up brighter on highlighted bits.

They are not kidding when they say this stuff is messy, though. We had to sweep and mop afterward, and next time I will be enlisting Greg’s help, because it is hard to put on by yourself. He ended up helping me halfway through.

Here’s what it looks like before you melt it:

I just watched the instructional video on their website, and I would like to try again to try to get mine to look the same as hers when she mixed it. I think I made mine a little thick.

Shopping Find:

Speaking of vegan stuff, I found this faux leather jacket during Urban Outfitters’ extra 30% sale. I feel kinda like I should use it to hunt vampires or something. I couldn’t find the exact, but there is a similar one here.

TV Show:
Obviously, Game of Thrones. I’m going to need to recover from that last episode. I’ll be in my bunk.

Is it weird that I want to see more of Iwan Rheon, because he is fascinating to watch act, but I want someone to push his character off a cliff?

What have you been watching, lately?

Friday Favorites: Hark the Winter Winds

How is your winter weather faring? It was so nice outside the other day, and now we have snow flurries!!

Favorite Cats:
It is not just me, even the cats are cold. They snuggled together in the warmest room in the house. I’ve been waking up to lots of kitty cuddles next to me.

Favorite Household Item:
This is more like on my wishlist, because I have had crazy cramps all day and the heating pad is my best friend. But wouldn’t a heated blanket be even better??? Greg suggested it, but I actually argued that I would probably never get up if I had it. I would crawl inside it and wrap up like a caterpillar.

Favorite Book:
I am reading Dragonfly in Amber, the second book in the Outlander series, by Diana Gabaldon. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to love it as much as number one, but Outlander is one of my favorites. If you are looking for some characters you can stick with and some historical (but fun & serious all at the same time) romance, I would suggest it.

Favorite Purchase:
I’m sensing a theme here of warm things & things to do while staying warm… My other jacket got eaten by the washer, so I bought a real winter jacket. So far, I approve very much. It even has little sleeves inside the arms so that the cold air doesn’t get inside.

Favorite TV Show:
This season is already finished?? I feel like I need a Who rewatch, after I finish all the Gilmore Girls on Netflix. Did you watch the last episode? I have feelings but not as many as with the Amy/Rory episodes. Maybe it will get there. Is it just me or are there way more explosions this season?

Are you warm where you are, or does it feel like winter there, too?

Friday Favorites: Snooki & a Vampire

Happy Friday! I can’t complain about this week. The weather has been pretty nice, and I have the windows open right now. This summer seems much shorter than the last, maybe because the heat didn’t seem as crazy *knock on wood*. We still have some summer left, so I’m trying to enjoy that. I can’t decide if I am missing fall yet.

Favorite Treat:
When I realized I was quickly circling to almost a full year since my last haircut and color, I decided it was time. It was probably more like 8 months since the last one, but when you are slowly turning into Chewbacca, it feels like much longer.

She lightened up my color with some highlights and gave me a quick trim. Some days you just gotta wrap your head in aluminum foil and stick it inside a helmet blow dryer. I want to go to the blonde side! Next time, possibly blonder.

Favorite TV Show:
I started watching True Blood from the beginning again, since I can’t remember where I left off, and I AM IN IT. I’m not saying it’s a great show. But I am in it now. Most of the time I don’t know what the hell just happened.

And then, with every werewolf-witch-fairy plot twist, I feel the same way.

But in the end, I don’t care because I love it, in all of its cheesiness and sexy bits and things that crack me up.

Favorite Video:
You guys might have seen this already, but watch it if not! Chris Pratt is awesome. And if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet, you should go see it. Greg and I are still laughing about it a couple weeks later. It’s probably my favorite movie this year, but I loooove almost all Marvel movies (Captain America wasn’t my favorite, but love the rest).

Favorite Funnies:
Bahahahaha.

True fact.

My plans for this weekend.

Have a great weekend!!

One More Episode

This week’s Hump Day is even better than usual, because my work week ends on Thursday. So far, I have zero plans for the Fourth, except I want to see some freakin’ fireworks! Time to get into some confessions…

I realized my Game of Thrones episodes were leaving OnDemand on 7/1, so I finished watching the last 6 episodes of season 4 within 24 hours. It was a great night / morning.

Speaking of HBO, my efforts turned out to be needless, anyway, because I caved and subscribed. I mean, HBO Go is too hard to resist, and the talk about True Blood lately has me wanting to go back and rewatch so I can catch up. Even though I know I’m gonna be over the crazy fairy stuff, don’t care. The other parts of the show are worth it. Just kidding, I like Sookie, even when Bill says, “SOOKEH.”

Remember the lovely peplum tops I posted about from J. Crew Factory? I bought three, because they were having a huge sale, and I sent them all back today. They were WAY too big. It looked like I was wearing a bag – has anyone else had this problem with J. Crew Factory sizes?

Have you ever seen this movie? Don’t watch it. Greg had to change the channel because I was crying too much to eat my bean burger. The crying where your face is all squished and sad and your throat closes up and there’s a lot of snot involved. This is a Disney movie??? Do they want the children to be sad?? It probably had a happy ending, but I was not prepared for this treachery, Disney.

On the bright side, something you should watch is Transformers: Age of Extinction. It was by far the best Transformers movie I’ve seen. This one was actually funny, and I recognized the actress as the girl from Bates Motel. It’s awesome if you want to see Mark Wahlberg do Mark Wahlberg things.

Friday Favorites – Summertime

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m sharing some of my favorite ways to survive the summer, even though it technically hasn’t started yet, because I am a snow-colored person and in danger of catching fire just stepping outside my door everyday.

I hope you are enjoying the weekend with some welcome company. Obviously, my cats love hanging out together.

Food:
Sno cones / water ice
They were always called sno cones when I lived in the South, but in the Northeast, they seem to call it water ice. It’s my favorite summer food, because when it’s hot, I start craving them like crazy. Especially with mixed flavors, like coconut, cherry, and vanilla – SO delicious!!
Shoes:
I went to Target this week and found these sandals buy one get one 1/2 off. The Gladiator sandals are similar to these Madewell sandals I’ve been wanting, but have been too cheap to buy. I hope these will see a lot of time outside this summer.

TV Show:
I started watching Orange is the New Black, and I love this show. I don’t know why I thought I would not be into it, but it is so different than I was expecting. It is not just a comedy; I am all up into this drama.
Workout Find:
My Old Navy capris are my favorite thing to work out in, because they are so tough, they survived the Spartan Race with no rips or tears. They are also stretchy for all the weird squats I do. I have them in black, and recently bought the blue.
Moment:
I laugh everytime I read this. I can’t stop picturing it.

Weekend Shenanigans

Hello Monday, you have surprised me yet again. I had a great weekend – I can’t believe it’s already time for me to run around like a hamster with no head at work. That sounds grosser than chicken. Let’s stick with chicken with no head. But I still think a headless hamster would run faster than a headless chicken.

Anyway, this weekend I learned that my cats don’t appreciate dance. Greg left me alone on Saturday, because he volunteered to work the football game. I took the time alone to finally work on the painting I started months ago. I played Alt J’s album while I was painting, and their music definitely has a beat..so the music took me over, and the dancing began. You would think it would be hard to dance and paint at the same time, and it is. But it’s worth it. My cats do not get my dancing, however. Or they were so mesmerized by my interpretive dance skills, they couldn’t stop staring.

Then Greg came home and asked me to please stop doing that, and we went to Old Navy, where I went shopping crazy during their Veteran’s Day sale. I’ll probably post what I found later, but one of my favorites is this huge cozy infinity scarf:

Honeycomb Stitch Infinity Scarf

Then, Sunday we stayed home and cleaned our whole apartment; it needed it bad. I even scrubbed our shower tiles! We also made this DELICIOUS chicken cordon bleu roll-up’s recipe. They were so good, and there was so much swiss cheese – nommm.

We finished up the night by catching up on The Walking Dead. I have no idea who that shirtless guy is, but Norman Reedus is holding a puppy.

Do you watch The Walking Dead? Do you do anything your pets just don’t understand?
