32 Weeks: Bumpdates

Another week gone flying by! I’m still having a hard time believing we are this far along.

I have been feeling good and we found out this week that baby weighs somewhere around 4 lbs 3 oz right now. I have a hard time shaving my legs, but at the same time don’t feel like I’m carrying around an extra 20-odd pounds most days.

Baby has been making great Alien impressions, and I can see her flipping around like a shark in my belly.

She also managed to kick the ultrasound technician as soon as she placed the wand on her this week, so she is continuing to develop her ninja skills.

Not sure she feels too armadillo-like. She’s definitely still otter-like in movements!

Food:
We had some really great food this weekend, including an incredibly delicious lemon glazed sprinkle donut, which caused hours of her flipping around later that night. She was on a sugar high. I also had a seitan cobb wrap, which was so good and I’m going to need another one of.

Family:
My mom came to visit me this weekend! I was so excited because she’s actually never been to my apartment since I moved here (from her location in SC to where I live now in DE). I was so proud of her driving up to see me. We went to IKEA because she had never been and she found a bunch of stuff.

She also got to feel the baby, which I was especially happy about. I don’t want her to miss all the fun moments.

Fitness:
Not that much. I go on walks occasionally for as long as I can. Today was an especially crazy day at work, so I needed to get out and decompress a little and went for a short walk afterwards. It was only a mile, because my ab muscle pain seems to be here to stay most days when I walk for any length, but I’m glad I got out for a little bit.

I have lots of stuff left to do, but hopefully with Greg home soon it will be easier!

31 Weeks: Bumpdates

This week is starting out as a really hot one! I can’t believe we are moving along at 31 weeks, and I also can’t wait for it to cool down outside.

Baby ninja moves: Baby is trying to expand her surroundings. This morning, I woke up at 2:30 AM to pee and then I was wide awake and couldn’t fall back asleep. I lay in bed looking at baby names on my phone and was thinking how I wished she would give me a little kick to let me know she’s there.

She then proceeded to have a dance party in my belly, which does not help with sleep. I fell back asleep around 3:15 and then woke up at 5:15 wishing I could stay in bed, but my alarm called. I love her dance parties, though.

Baby size: She feels like a wiggly otter this week!

Exploring: MommyCon. I went to MommyCon in DC last weekend, which was quite an event. I don’t know if I would do it again, although maybe if it was in another location. It’s a big convention that focuses on cloth diapers (which I’m interested in) and baby-wearing.

Also, sob story: I had a snack mid-morning and then during the scheduled lunch break, I took a (super hot) walk to Chipotle and ordered a bowl. Then I realized I wasn’t that hungry and I was too full to finish more than half my bowl. So I threw away half a bowl of Chipotle, which is not cool. Then, on my way home about three hours later, I was ravenously hungry. Luckily, I packed a snack.

The Con was not bad and I learned a little and got lots of vendor names to check out online, but it was really crowded and I dislike driving in downtown DC. I bought a few cool nursing infinity scarves that I love:

Craving: Watermelon and brownies! I simply had to have a watermelon the night I got back from DC, so I stopped at a farmer’s market and picked one up. Then I really wanted homemade brownies, so I cooked some up and am enjoying them one by one, since I stuck them in the freezer to make them last this week. Not sure how long they will actually last at this point, but they are delicious.

Good news! We found out Greg should get home soon, and I put in my two weeks notice at work to be able to enjoy some time at home and get some things done.

30 Weeks: Weekend Bumpdates

I skipped a week, woops. Last week was the end of my 11-days straight work week, so I was kind of pooped. It was finished off with a three-day weekend, though, which is always fantastic.

These were both taken the same day, but I had to release the belly from the skirt since it feels better when it’s free and wild and unconstricted. The shorts are from Target and have been awesome. I can roll the belly covering part down when I don’t want anything on it.

This week I hit 30 weeks, which is surprising to me, being less than 10 weeks away from my due date. I still have a lot of stuff to do, but some of it I’m waiting on Greg to get back for (like pick a name…no big deal right, no need to freak out! I may freak out a tiny bit, but I do know what I like and have told him, just need to decide for sure when he gets here).

Last week at my doctor’s office, my OB asked me if people said anything about my bump being small and I told her a lot of people have mentioned it. I do not mind at all, and in my uniform people might not be able to tell. She said I have a really long torso, so I think baby has some room to move around in there.

I roll out of bed like a turtle when I get up to go pee at night, but besides that, the belly is a slightly compact size and hasn’t been causing me too much back pain or anything.

Baby is growing lots in this trimester:

Workouts:
Workouts are sporadic and I do them whenever I am feeling good and/or have the time. Today, I went for a walk and it went really well – no ab muscle pain this time, which has been off and on. Although it is HOT here and I didn’t stay out too long.

Every time I go for a walk, I admit I think of one of my favorite Buffy moments. I know there are other BtVS fans. I love Spike and Buffy.

Books:
I had a great accidental library haul the other day. I went in to drop off a book and try to find one more while I was waiting for one I stumbled upon all these. I’m reading Daughter of Smoke & Bone right now, and will hold my thoughts until the end but I will say I am really into it.

Hair:
I dyed my hair this weekend, because my color seemed really golden to me and I wasn’t feeling the light color, anymore. I went for a darker, chocolate shade with Naturtint in light chestnut brown and really like it so far.

I had a fabulously relaxing and much-needed weekend, and I hope you’re off to a good week.

28 Weeks: Bumpdates

We are experiencing a heat wave and it makes me wish I could create a pillow fort underneath my desk and take a nap. I would love to take my Snoogle pillow to work and wrap up in it.

The third trimester has brought a little more discomfort, but the same otherwise so far. This is basically me sitting in my chair at work.

Then I go home and go to bed with my Snoogle.

Baby is growing bigger; this week she’s an echidna.

She feels more like a baby gazelle or lemur the way she moves.

Gifts:
Greg sent a bunch of baby items in the mail. I love them all, and I can’t wait till we can pick out more stuff together.

Also, our baby’s alternate name, from two Doctor Who loving parents:

Exercise:
This is how baby feels every time I try to go for a walk.

It’s a big nope. I have the same ab/muscle pain every time I walk for any distance, which grows with intensity until I am walking slower than a turtle’s pace. Maybe prenatal yoga will be an option.

Food:
I baked all the cookies the past week. I have so many cookies in my house right now. I stuck the extra in the freezer for every day cookie monster moments.

These are from my favorite vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe. I usually use half coconut oil, half vegetable oil, instead of all coconut oil and I don’t notice any coconut-y flavor.

27 Weeks: Bumpdates

The month of June flew by like a horde of hamsters (side note: I looked up what a group of hamsters is called – it is indeed a horde, which is not what I imagined. I think of hordes of goblins, but hey.. hamsters can have hordes, too).

It may not show in the bump, but baby is growing bigger and one thing I didn’t know is that everything changes and not just your belly. Not a lot, but a little. Hips get slightly wider, legs get bigger (bloating? I don’t know these days, everything bloats). Everything feels different, but I am enjoying the ability to continue shaving my own legs.

One thing that’s crazy is that at the end of this week, we will be at 28 weeks = 7 months, which is also the beginning of the third trimester! How did this happen so fast? It really makes me start thinking of all the things I need to do. I made a couple appointments this week, for a car seat inspection and a newborn class in a couple months.

The second trimester has been so nice compared to the first. I have no idea what the third will be like. Mostly, I feel good and almost forget I’m pregnant until she reminds me with her ninja kicks.

Baby is the size of a fennec fox this week!

She’s also a happy little cauliflower.

Workouts:
Workouts have been drastically cut down in distance/endurance, because once I get about 1/4 mile into my walk, the same muscle near my abs on the right side starts pulling and stretching, like a painful cramp. I have literally walked 2 MPH on the treadmill the past two days. I feel like the sloth from Zootopia.

I’m happy moving for the mile or two I can get in. I don’t want to push it too hard, but it’s hard to not move when your brain is up for it and one part of your body complains. Not to mention, gaining 20 lbs, although in the healthy range and all in the effort of making a baby, makes me want to try to keep some healthy habits.

Food:
I called to order food from a good vegan place near me this weekend, but I was on hold for seven minutes, and then when I called back they didn’t pick up. I took that as it was just not going to happen for me and that place.

Then I thought of something even better. I ordered from Grub Burger Bar and got a chickpea veggie burger and waffle sweet potato fries and it was amazing. So so good.

I also made a pan of brownies, because I have been craving some homemade baked goods. I’ve also been trying to go back to a mostly vegan diet, and I love baking vegan things. I stuck them in the freezer, so now I have sneaky freezer brownies.

Cat Dates:
I have some plans with Luna and Boba this four-day weekend. Let’s get this nap and Netflix party started. And doing things, also doing things that should be done. But half Netflix party.

26 Weeks: Bumpdates

I feel like I had a productive weekend, and I was definitely not ready to get out of bed this morning and go to work. Maternity leave, please. Although I’m pretty sure my not wanting to wake up early is my natural thought all the time.

I still look at pictures from a couple months ago and can’t believe I thought I had a belly then. How could I ever have been that small? Then again, my baby used to be the size of a blueberry. Now, she’s much bigger and I can feel her little legs moving.

She’s also the size of a coconut.

I don’t know if the bump is obvious, since no one has commented in public about it and definitely no one has asked to touch my belly, thank goodness.

Food:
My favorite food is still tacos. When I’m out of fresh avocados, I use the little single serving packs of guacamole, which are perfect when you really need some guacamole. That’s pretty much every day. Beans and rice are my go-to. Tonight, I’m planning on making tempeh bacon tacos.

Workouts:
Workouts are not happening very often, but I’ve recently been able to walk again without getting cramps in my abs and groin, so let’s hope it keeps going for a while.

I adopted a new workout style, because the sun is my enemy and apparently pregnant ladies burn easily, so I wear a trucker hat.

Shopping:
I went to IKEA this weekend and didn’t find anything. I actually was looking for a dresser and had a couple from their website in mind that I wanted to see in person. Of course, on the day that we went they were redoing their dresser section, so most of them weren’t on display. I’ll go back later, since I have other things I can work on, anyway.

Other than a minor freakout over the weekend over my glucose test, we have been doing well. I failed the one-hour glucose test and had to go back and take a three-hour test that requires fasting overnight. It wasn’t too bad besides me being extremely worried about the results. I felt terrible when they told me I failed the first test, and may have cried a lot. Lots of ugly crying. But we got the good news the other day – I passed the three-hour test! I apparently do not have gestational diabetes, and I can eat a doughnut if I decide I want a doughnut (I added in my own medical advice). I haven’t had one in ages, but I like being able to if I want one.

25 Weeks: Bumpdates

Week 25 is halfway through, and the bump grows bigger and the ninja kicks get more ninja-y.

I wear a uniform to work, and totally forgot to take any bump pics this week except for my new maternity items. I’m so excited about those! After work, I generally go straight into the shower to wash off the sweaty day and then it’s pajamas and no bra. I look forward to pajamas every day.

My mood has been good and I’m slightly less hormonal than I have been in past weeks, for now. Although yesterday I was grumpy because I didn’t want to talk to anyone after work and was pouting that I would have to put a bra on because my friend was coming over to scoop the cat litter.

Baby is still kicking in the same spot on my right side, which is her favorite. It really takes a beating, but I love it.

She’s also the size of a large cucumber, but a prairie dog is easier to imagine and more cuddly.

The answer to the question of is my home ready for Muffin yet is no. The house is so not ready. There are so many boxes that I can’t open yet, because they would probably take up more room opened than they are now. But, I am planning a trip to Ikea this weekend to look for a dresser so that I can at least put away her clothes and other baby items.

Food:
I’ve been eating lots of delicious foods, although I try to eat out only on the weekend. I still go out occasionally for lunch, but it works for the most part.

I got a delicious taco salad this week, as well as some stir fry from Honey Grow, pancakes, and a strawberry/cantaloupe water ice.

Goals:
I try to get some things done before Greg gets back (he’s over halfway through deployment!). Last weekend, I went through my wardrobe (I have a literal wardrobe) and all my clothes to get rid of things I don’t wear anymore.

I ended up with a whole trash bag, which I’m going to send to ThredUp once I get my selling bag in the mail. They are overloaded with items right now, so I’m on a waiting list. Next project – under the bed?

Cat Life:
Boba Fett is still trying to prepare me for baby by begging me to pick him up anytime I’m in the bathroom or bedroom getting ready. He doesn’t like to cuddle while I’m sitting down, but he wants me to hold him all the time while I’m standing and pet him.

Here he is enjoying the box I’m getting ready to send Greg.

Hope you’re having a fabulous week!
