My book list is much shorter this month – I didn’t read as crazy many books as I have been because I started work a few weeks ago. I picked my books for my book challenge by Erin, and have started reading one of them so far. I’m excited for all of the books on the list and have also read a few good books, lately.
The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti – 4 stars
I loved the flashbacks to Samuel Hawley’s life leading us up to his current life with his daughter. I almost wished the whole book had been about that, but I understand why both view points were there. I raced through those parts and slowed down during his daughter’s story.
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – 4 stars
Rainbow Rowell is an author I’ve had my ups and downs with. I loved Attachments but didn’t enjoy Fangirl nearly as much. This one was right under Attachments for me. It took some time to grow on me, but the characters were endearing, especially Eleanor. I was expecting a fluffier story – I’m glad it actually had a little harder edge.
Boston Girl by Anita Diamant – 3.5 stars
This story was easy and enjoyable although it meandered a bit. I’m not sure I will pick up other books by this author because it didn’t leave a strong lasting impression. I enjoyed the school bits in the beginning because I love a school setting and after that it wandered.

I read Eleanor & Park so long ago – I loved that book… I may need to re-read it.
I've got Fangirl on my Kindle & keep putting it off – not so good, huh?

I started reading Rowell thinking she was “fluffy,” but there's always so much heart in it! Although I loved Fangirl…haven't tried Attachments yet though.

I am about 100 pages into Samuel Hawley and so far it's OK but hasn't really grabbed me… I agree that I like the flashbacks better than the present day story and it's a little frustrating that I want more of each flashback – What happened next?! – Rather than just moving on to the next bullet.

Samuel Hawley is on my list. Loved Attachments & E&P (and really liked Fangirl too). Landline was my least favourite by Rowell I think.

I loved E&P and was pleasantly surprised by the hardness of it. Thus, Fangirl (which I found to be so-so) and Attachment both disappointed me overall. I do like that she always finds interesting hooks (playlists, fan fiction) but I'm realizing she may not be for me. Samuel Hawley is on my list as is The Hate U Give.

I feel like it's still a great reading month if you read some books you really enjoyed, even if there weren't that many of them! I'm glad that you liked Eleanor & Park. I think that the fact that it was an edgier of a book made it a lot more believable. I still need to read Attachments because I've heard that it'll be my favorite from Rainbow Rowell!

You have two of my favorites of the year on this list, one of my favorites of all-time, and one I've never read and can't remember why. I think it's historical fiction and that should be why.

I really liked Fangirl and Attachments, but I need to read more by Rainbow Rowell. I own Eleanor and Park and Carry On, so I need to start this soon! 🙂
I also have a copy of The Hate U Give that I hope to read asap.

I agree Fangirl was so-so. I enjoyed Attachments but it's been a long time since I read that one. I'm still not sure if Rainbow Rowell is for me – sometimes yes, sometimes no.

oh my gosh that picture of P with the books is too adorable. I agree about Samuel Hawley, I preferred the flashbacks. Bummer about Boston Girl, I really liked it, but I listened to it (all in one go actually, so it was like sitting down with someone's grandma). I haven't read anything else of hers though, it didn't leave that much of an impression on me haha. I have heard amazing things about the hate u give, i'm like #300 at the library lol

I have the exact same feelings with you about Rowell books. Loved Attachments and E & P but could have done without Fangirl. Twelve Lives and Hate U Give are on my TBR.

Fun choices this time around. I don't know why… but your blog is in my feed.. and it DOES NOT SHOW UP. 😦 It drives me crazy. I haven't read any Rowell yet, but I have Fangirl at home.
