This was one of those months where I read a bunch and then slowed way down. I’ve been reading the same book for a while, but to be fair, it is quite a mammoth of a book. You can check out my current and previous reads on Goodreads.
It’s one of my favorite times of the month, and that is linking up with Steph and Jana for Show Us Your Books.
Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown – 4 stars
Holy moly, was this an intense read. I don’t usually read a lot of violent stories, and this is a sci-fi series with lots of war and fighting. It also has lots of great characters, and at the end I immediately would have started the next book if I had it (cliffhanger!!). After I took a few minutes and calmed myself, I decided to give myself a break and read something a little less violent in between.
The last book in this series was definitely 3 stars for me, but I loved the first one, and the second one was a good follow-up. The premise really grabbed me and it has an excellent cast of characters. The first one especially has a nice romantic side.
As You Wish by Cary Elwes – 4 stars
Loved this one! I definitely recommend if you like The Princess Bride. There were lots of funny stories and details about the actors that I never knew.
That’s it for me for now. As I mentioned in another post, I’m currently reading Live from New York about the history of SNL. Very interesting, but huuge and I am luckily close to finishing, because I’m ready to move on.
How has your month of reading gone? I am excited to see what everyone’s been reading.
Oh I loved Golden Son and I just finished Morning Star too! A really great series! I hope you get to read the third book soon and have just as much fun reading it!
I've yet to read the Poison Study series, they have it at my library but I already have too many books from there to read. I'll have to add it to my never ending list of books to get!

You already sold me on Poison Study and As You Wish from one of your other posts, so I don't get to add anything to my TBR but I'm glad to have someone who reads similar genres! I am probably not going to read the Red Rising series because I feel like I'm still recovering from the Night Angel trilogy. 😛 Only so much violence per season!

The Red Rising series sounds interesting. Live From New York would be cool to read but maybe I would do it via audiobook since it is a long one.

I also wanted the final book in the Red Rising trilogy immediately but in the end was glad I waited for another book or two!

the red rising series is sitting in my library box (because of course i need a box for my ridiculously large pile) and i have all 3, i am trying to wait for like a weekend, so things like work and sleep don't get in my way. i loved as you wish, i am not a hardcore fan at all, but i definitely enjoy the movie and loved hearing all the fun stories. the study series sounds cute!

Red Rising is sitting on my kindle, waiting for me to dive into it. I've heard so many great things about the series. Even though I'm generally not a huge fan of memoirs, that one does interest me since I enjoyed The Princess Bride.

Part of me is tempted to read the Red Rising series, but I'm afraid I'd spend the entire time comparing it to Hunger Games/Red Queen. Very tempted…

I'm not a huge non-fiction fan, but I'll read one every now and then. As You Wish was definitely interesting and had good stories.

I haven't read Golden Son yet, I wasn't really blown away by Red Rising? (I know, I am the black sheep here for sure!) And sad about the Study series- I hate when series don't finish as strong as they started! I hope you get to read Morning Star soon!

I can understand about Red Rising. I still haven't picked up the third one, because while the ending of Golden Son left me wanting to keep reading, it's violent in between and some parts are not my kind of thing.
